Pakistan crushed a lack luster West Indies by 10 wickets to enter the semifinals of the 2011 World Cup. Pakistan bowled out West Indies for a paltry 112 and chased down the target in 20.5 overs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Bangladesh. Openers Mohammed Hafees and Kamran Akmal remained unbeaten on 61 and 47. Skipper Shahid Afridi took four wickets in the West Indies innings.

Electing to bat, the Caribbeans could never recover from early jolts, and lost wickets at regular intervals to fold up in 43.3 overs, setting Pakistan an easy target at an asking rate of only 2.26 runs before a large crowd at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. It was the West Indies’ third lowest total in the World Cup.

Now have a look on few news scoop and results of group matches.

News Scoop:

The blow of Pietersen’s departure from the tournament was softened by the news that Morgan would be able to replace him. Originally omitted from the squad due to a finger injury, the mercurial Irishman has been a crucial member of England’s ODI endeavors in the past two years. Whilst his career is on the up, there is a lingering suspicion that Pietersen’s star is fading.

Indeed KP’s move to open the innings alongside Andrew Strauss was a clear attempt by England management to reinvigorate him. A string of injuries and a loss of form in the past two years have curtailed his importance to the side.

By bumping him up the order England was placing grater importance on Pietersen, saying to him that he was still the main man, the man to get things going where perhaps some of team mates couldn’t.

The experiment looked to be running smoothly, but Pietersen managed to get himself out with a lazy reverse sweep against Ireland when he was well set, before falling in the first over against South Africa.
