Contest opened to give BP logo a new deserved look

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

In the past few weeks we have seen a lot of discussions going on “BP Oil Spill” and BP have revealed that more new oil was produced in the Gulf of Mexico last year than any other region in the world, as the company seeks to persuade the US government that its giant spill should not halt deepwater drilling. "The world’s largest increase in oil production by far came from the US, mainly from the Gulf of Mexico. This is not an excuse for anything, but a piece of the reality in which we all live," said Tony Hayward, BP’s chief executive, in his introduction to the statistical review.

A contest is taking place regarding this where designers from all over world can contribute by making new logo for BP and using its theme and the target audience is “the world”. There have been made quite a few creative examples like making BP rather stand for Bad Planning and Big Problems. Some have even used animals as inspiration and created logos with birds or whales trapped in the oil.

The Gulf Coast Oil Spill has sure earned BP a lot of negative and bizarre attention. After a month of dealing with the issue, their methods are still being attacked by environmental groups and the media. The most recent issue concerns their latest siphoning method of cleaning up the spill, which dropped from 92,400 gallons per day to 57,120 gallons in the last 24 hours.

Be creative and make sure your logo has a strong brand for BP.
