Challenges in Logo Design over the Next Five Years
Logo design has evolved tremendously over the years. It has gone through the internet revolution and encountered several challenges in the mean time. Some of the biggest challenges faced by identity designers include uniqueness, keeping up with ever changing trends, and also adding vitality and exceeding standards.
Ensuring that each design is unique is never easy and may not even be possible with our current pool of knowledge and technology. Even so, it is important to ensure that deliberate copying and theft of logo designs is kept under check and does not spiral out of control. At the same time, it has to be accepted that this challenge has been made a lot more difficult as a result of the rise in logo services companies moving online.
While we cry about the need for logo designs to be unique, it is also important not to go over the top and create awkward designs that lead us into mockery. It is all about playing that fine line between being different and not looking weird. One example of falling onto this pitfall is the London 2012 Olympic design. It was criticized and mocked across the board and took a lot of criticism.
Keeping up with trends is another hey factor is creating successful logos. As the years go by, many of the old design norms have been deemed obsolete and therefore a fresh approach has to be taken. Keeping up with current and future design trends and exceeding expectations is going to be the key to a successful logo over the next five years.
