The Making of Elegant Logo Designs

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Creating an elegant logo that possesses both beauty as well as professionalism does not always require an “out of the box” idea. Instead, a well designed logo only calls for a thorough understanding of the logo’s basic qualities such as, strategic incorporation of graphic elements, careful use of fonts and typography, minimal use of colors as well as the functionality and versatility of the logo design.

Graphic designers have to consider the potential use of this logo as it affects the functionality and scalability of the design. For instance, will the logo look just as good on a billboard as it looks on business cards? Other mediums to consider include: cars, buses, clothing (uniforms, caps etc), ceramics (mugs), office stationary etc.

Designers have to find the delicate balance for creating a “perfect” logo design that embodies both elegance and beauty without being ostentatious or obtrusive. In accord, special attention has to be given to factors such as simplicity and limited color usage as it can lead to astonishingly elegant and stylish logos.

Logo designs are usually of two kinds, they can be text or image based or a combination of both. The advantage of text based logos is that they can brand your name better than other image based or vector logos. You can easily make an elegant logo without through these tips:

FONTS

You can start by choosing an elegant font. While, there are various fonts to choose from, most amateur make the disastrous mistake of selecting fonts on the basis of their attractiveness rather than functionality or recognition. I simply cannot disparage the importance of attractiveness and elegance of the font but scalability and functionality are important aspects to consider in an elegant logo. Fonts such as Gothic fonts are a rarity amongst elegance logos and often tend to be meaningless to the targeted customers.

SIMPLICITY

The foremost emphasis that all graphic designers and professional place in the making of elegant logos concerns simplicity regardless of whether it involves text, fonts, graphic elements or color scheme.  Care has to be taken in maintaining the simplicity as to prevent giving a cluttered look of the entire company image. More designers eliminate these three elements to ensure simplicity of their designs:

  1. exaggerated designs
  2. use of more than three colors
  3. use of two different typographic fonts

Elegant logos certainly enhance business image for the consumer and it is through the visual representation that clients form a distinct view of what exactly your company has to offer. To better convey your side of the argument, a straightforward text application can surely bring pronounced effects for your company image.

Color Use

Color schemes are an important graphic element to consider when designing logos for enhancing a company’s market image. The basic rule with colors is to never overuse them. Each color has a specific and particular meaning for customers. You will be surprised by the number of famous logo designs comprising of not more than two colors and at times no color at all.
